Genuine Support Services Australia’s Fresh Perspective Photography program is taking an exciting step forward as its members prepare to become judges in photography exhibitions across the state, starting with the celebrated Murray Bridge Agricultural and Horticultural Show on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
As part of their development, Fresh Perspective participants are undergoing specialised training to critically assess entries at South Australian country shows, where they also hope to launch show specific 'Best of Show” photographic competitions.

The transition to judging marks a significant milestone for the group, who have previously focused on mentoring and creative development. Glenn Power of Tailem Bend, the Senior Photographer with Fresh Perspective Photography, explained the most crucial aspect of being a photography judge is maintaining objectivity while appreciating different artistic styles. “Judging is about understanding the technical aspects, like lighting, composition, and focus, but also recognizing creativity, emotion, and the story behind each image,” he said.

Judges will be looking for works that strike a balance between technical excellence and personal expression. Attention to detail, originality, and the ability to evoke emotion are key factors they will consider in their evaluations.
The opportunity to judge competitions is expected to further empower Fresh Perspective’s members, who are not only growing as photographers but also contributing to the wider photography community by shaping future exhibitions and showcasing local talent.
