Neo-Noir SALA Exhibition “Out of Frame” Opens

Murray Bridge and Milang photographer Caleb Carter is set to unveil his debut solo exhibition, “Out of Frame,” at GSSA’s Ability Cafe on Friday, August 15. A keen member of Genuine Support Service Australia’s Fresh Perspective Photography program, Caleb brings a bold and deeply personal vision to the world of neo-noir black-and-white photography.

Caleb Carter is constantly looking for different angles, he is always up for a laugh and enjoys pushing the boundaries with his art.

“Out of Frame” is a striking exploration of family, viewed through a lens of dramatic framing, extreme contrast, and emotional intensity. Fusing classic film noir aesthetics with modern narrative techniques, Caleb’s work delves into complex themes such as identity, sadness, memory, and belonging. His images are not only visually arresting but layered with meaning—offering audiences a powerful and immersive experience.

Known for his caring spirit and fun-loving nature, Caleb has embraced photography as a life-changing creative journey. His artistic process is therapeutic and immersive, drawing on the peaceful benefits of digital photography to express personal truths and push conceptual boundaries.

In addition to his Ability Cafe exhibition, Caleb’s work will also be on display at the Coorong Gallery during SALA, giving the public multiple opportunities to engage with his unique storytelling approach. The Ability Cafe is open every Friday from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm and provides an inclusive and welcoming space to experience local talent.

Caleb Carter’s “Out of Frame” invites viewers to step beyond the obvious—into shadow, story, and light - it is a must-see exhibition from an emerging photographer who is thinking far outside the frame.
