A Beacon of Hope and Dedication

In the heart of South Australia's Mallee, a quiet revolution in disability support is taking place, led by the dedicated and inspiring group of Team Leaders at Genuine Support Services Australia. (GSSA)

One of those Team Leaders is Bee Bygrave of Mount Barker. Bee’s journey to this pivotal role is a testament to her unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and her passion for making a tangible difference in their lives.

Her story begins in the serene Riverland, where she was born, then, at the tender age of four, her family relocated to the Northern Territory, settling in the small town of Elliott. Here, Bee attended school as the only non-Indigenous student in her class, an experience that fostered in her, a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

Bee’s family's journey took them to Katherine and then eventually Victor Harbor, when Bee was eight - these formative years were marked by a series of moves that instilled in Bee a sense of resilience and adaptability.

"I have worked in various roles over the years," Bee shares, reflecting on her diverse career. "From retail stores, to being an Information Services Officer for TAFE SA - each role has taught me valuable lessons and shaped who I am today." However, it was four years ago that Bee’s life took a significant turn. She moved to the picturesque Adelaide Hills with her daughters, seeking better access to disability resources, education, and employment opportunities.

The move was particularly motivated by her eldest daughter, who lives with a disability. "Watching her grow and flourish has been an inspiration to me," Bee says with a smile. "I have always been interested in finding ways to support her to live her best life." This personal experience fuelled Bee’s passion for disability support, leading her to leave her retail job when the COVID-19 pandemic struck and pursue studies in Individual Support for Disability.

Today, Bee is a pillar of strength and positivity at Genuine Support Services Australia, a registered NDIS provider serving the Murraylands, Fleurieu Peninsula, and Adelaide Hills regions. The organization's mission is to offer comprehensive support services that cater to the unique needs of individuals with disabilities, helping them achieve their personal goals and lead fulfilling lives.
